The first time I produced a photo for a Spotlight cover. The assignment was simply for a cover shot for the newspaper featuring the city swim competition. The first day, I took over 200 photos and many action shots, but nothing that "popped" well enough for me to show my boss. The second day, after a tournament computer was down, I got a kid who wanted his pic taken and told him just to start as he normally would. On the second try, I got this shot, only one of a few that I actually shoed my boss. He concurred. When he was happy with this, he pitched me the idea that Obama was coming to town...my second cover and my first story.
