Story and photos: My boss at Spotlight had just called a week prior to try me out by having me look for the cover shot. It took two days at the swim meet to get the right shot. When I finally brought it in, he informed me that President Obama would be coming the following week and if I thought I could get in. Three days on the phone and two days of waiting and I was in! When I came into the office for a final prep, I asked my boss if he was sending a reporter with me, as he hired me as a photographer: "You're an English teacher, you figure it out!" It was music to my ears. Being given a challenge and working through it and being given another challenge and knowing I could overcome that too. On each of these covers, I'll caption that I did provided the photography and/or the story for the newspaper or magazine.
