The 16 de Septiembre parade last year was at the same time a celebration of independence, and a brief respite from the violence, and also nervous time. Even though there were soldiers and police officers everywhere, including 3 helicopters scanning the area, nobody could be sure there would be no violence. The parade was peaceful.
4 men were killed in this very area just 6 hours later.
